It was one year ago tonight that I received that dreaded phone call from the Emergency Room at Utah Valley Regional Hospital. I, in turn, called Rebecca with a dreaded phone call, and our family adventure began.
I continue to be in awe of the many mighty miracles that Heavenly Father allowed in Daniel's behalf, so he is still with us today, both spiritually and mentally. Things could have turned out very differently.
I am grateful to whomever called 911
I am grateful to the policeman who first arrived and began CPR
I am grateful to the team of paramedics who arrived and began working as they walked into the healthclub, putting to use the years of training and preparation the obtain so they can save the lives of total strangers
I am grateful to the ER docs and nurses who kicked into action before he even arrived
I am grateful to the person at BYU police who gave ER my cell phone number, and I am grateful I had listed that number on Daniel's emergency contact info for BYU
I am grateful to the many doctors and nurses working in the Hospital and ICU, and even the security guards who came at night to entertain and babysit Daniel
I am grateful for his older sister, who took charge and kept the family going and informed, who created the infamous "All About our Dirty Dan" blog, and who had faith
I am grateful for younger sisters who bore their testimonies of Eternal families, on Facebook, who were willing to accept God's will for our family, who remained upbeat, and who had faith
I am grateful for the priesthood on the earth, so Jud and Steve could give Daniel blessings
I am grateful to my two bosses, Bro Burkhart and Bro Stouder, who took off work the morning they found out about Daniel's episode, to go to the temple and pray for him.
I am grateful for caring friends, some people we didn't even know, who put Daniel's name on prayer rolls of temples all around the world, and who fasted and prayed for his recovery and who kept up with his blog
I am grateful for gifted doctors, especially Dr. McCann, who prepared for the surgery so Daniel could have the best hope for normal physical health and longevity
I am grateful for the many medical personnel who helped during the surgery, including the anesthesiologist who came out and reported to use about the amazing results of his surgery.
I am grateful to kind nurses.
I am grateful to Franklin and Christy Lewis, for opening their home to Daniel and me during rehab.
I am grateful for the personnel at Medical Rehab who helped strengthen him, (both in Provo and Texas)
I am grateful to all those friends who sent cards and visited and asked about Daniel, and continue to ask about his health.
I am grateful for all my co-workers who prayed for him, and our family, both at work and with their families
I am grateful to my Heavenly Father who knows what it feels like to watch his only begotten Son suffer and die, so He comforted me throughout the ordeal, not knowing if I would lose my only son or not.
I am grateful Daniel, dubbed "the miracle kid" by his ICU nurses and doctors, is still with us, with a second chance to accomplish his mission.
This day, January 28, will always be a special, spiritual day for me. Say many prayers of gratitude today, so Heavenly Father knows we will never forget.
Love, Mom
We are all very grateful, too!
